<p><strong>Jamie Russell </strong>The script called for a car chase between Bond and Zao across a frozen glacier.</p>
<p><strong>Rick Yune [Zao] </strong>You have these two powerful machines that are built for battle, but they’re facing off against each other as if in a ballet, dancing on ice.</p>
<p><strong>Jamie Russell</strong> On a recce the production found a frozen lagoon near Vatnajökull in Iceland.</p>
<p><strong>Michael G. Wilson [Producer]</strong> This lagoon is unique in the world because it freezes over with icebergs trapped in the ice.</p>
<p><strong>Lee Tamahori [Director]</strong> I needed a frozen Iceland and I hadn’t got it. Iceland was going through a global warming patch, the first time ever in its history, just when we wanted to go up there and expected this lake to be frozen.</p>
<p><strong>Jamie Russell</strong> There were plans for the production to switch to an alternate location like Alaska. However, the costs of taking the crew out to Alaska proved prohibitive. Then their luck changed.</p>
<p><strong>Michael G. Wilson</strong> It was a miracle. That lagoon only freezes a few weeks a year to a depth that’s sufficient for cars to run on it. It just so happened that this was the coldest February in 60 years, and therefore we only had a few weeks to film everything.</p>
<p><strong>Jamie Russell</strong> The second unit, led by Vic Armstrong, left for Iceland on February 25 for a three-week shoot.</p>
<p><strong>Michael G. Wilson</strong> We got everything done in that time and as soon as we came off the ice the icebergs began to roll over and started to break up.</p>
<p><strong>Jamie Russell</strong> In June, they shot all the close-ups and inserts for the car chase and ice dragster scenes on an airfield at Burford.</p>
<p><strong>Peter Lamont [Production Designer]</strong> We’d been to the real lake—there were these wonderful blue colors, these strange-shaped icebergs—and we took photos of it for reference. One of the shots that Lee did at Burford had Zao in the foreground jumping into the Jaguar, one or two of our fake icebergs around it, fake snow on the floor, and a blown-up picture we took of an iceberg in the background. For all intents and purposes, we were in Iceland, with a huge iceberg. I knew then that it was going to work.</p>

<p><strong>Howard Hughes</strong> Although the script was ready for the beginning of shooting in April, 1974, the golden gun of the title was not. At the end of March, the lighter company Colibri agreed to make it based on art director Peter Lamont’s drawings.</p>
<p><strong>Peter Lamont</strong> It had to be made of a cigarette lighter, pen, cuff links, and cigarette case. I made models to make sure it all joined together.</p>
<p><strong>Howard Hughes</strong> Two versions were commissioned—a solid gun, and one that came to pieces into its constituent parts—plus a working cigarette lighter.</p>
<p>Principal photography began on April 18, 1974, on Khao Phing Kan Island, Thailand, for the beach and exteriors of Scaramanga’s hideaway. It was the second outing for Roger Moore as James Bond, and he was joined by Christopher Lee as the assassin Scaramanaga.</p>
<p><strong>Roger Moore</strong> On the first day of shooting, we had to walk into this overhang into this cave. I’m six-foot-one and Christopher, he really is tall. I’m trotting along beside him. As we’re walking into the cave, out came a thousand bats. Christopher said (imitating Dracula), “Not now, Stanislaus.”</p>
<p><strong>Howard Hughes</strong> After further filming in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and Macau, the production returned to the UK. On June 28, 1974 the second scene to be shot at Pinewood Studios was between Scaramanga and Hai Fat (Richard Loo), in Fat’s study. The gun was delivered late by Colibri and the parts didn’t fit together very well.</p>
<p><strong>Peter Lamont </strong>There are a couple of sequences in the film where Christopher Lee assembles it. I remember Christopher said, “This is absolutely impossible, this can’t be done. How do you do it?” And I said, “I take it home and I practice with it.”</p>
<p><strong>Howard Hughes </strong>They decided to bypass the problem. In the film, as Scaramanga assembles the weapon, director Guy Hamilton cuts away to Hai Fat and then back to Scaramanga holding the one-piece prop gun.</p>

<p><strong>Paul Duncan</strong> Shirley Eaton played Jill Masterson, Auric Goldfinger’s sexy assistant, who makes the mistake of falling for Bond and pays with her life. Her scenes in Goldfinger’s hotel suite and balcony were filmed first, on March 23 and 24, 1964–a week after she was hired—then retakes of the balcony scene were made before she played her love scene with Connery on April 6.</p>
<p><strong>Shirley Eaton</strong> There were little things that I did that weren’t directed in the love scene with Sean because I’m an instinctive person. Guy [Hamilton, the director] told us the moves and where the camera would be and everything. But, for instance, when we’re in the middle of the love scene and Sean goes to pick up the telephone, I sort of creep across the bed and curl my hair around his ear. Well, that was all my own doing. I did what I’d do if I was in the middle of a love scene. Sort of be charming at the same time, and saying don’t stay away from me for too long.</p>
<p><strong>Paul Duncan</strong> April 17 saw further retakes of the balcony scene and some of the love scene. Finally, on April 20, Jill Masterson is killed by the application of gold paint all over her body.</p>
<p><strong>Guy Hamilton</strong> The makeup department had obviously done their stuff. If you painted her in real gold it didn’t stick on and you couldn’t afford it. Weeks before they had tried varying goos and paints and things, because under the lights something would invariably bubble up. So they had done endless tests on people’s arms and bottoms and legs and skins, and finally found a goo that looked gold, and could be painted on fairly quickly. The only thing I insisted on was that we do it quickly, because you can’t leave somebody like that all day long.</p>
<p><strong>Shirley Eaton</strong> I had the gold painted on me with a paintbrush, and it was a makeup with millions of gold particles, and it took about an hour and a half.</p>
<p>I had no paint on the front of me, so that my skin could breathe, and then I had two little cones on my breasts, for my own modesty, when I walked on the set. And I was wearing a thong. Guy Hamilton filmed it with a cushion on the sofa in foreground, and the edge of the cushion just covered the thong, so I look totally naked.</p>
<p>I did feel hot and uncomfortable, but Guy was very considerate of me. He got it done very quickly, and the two shots were done in one morning.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Here are concept art images from the 007 Legends video game showing the progression of the evil Hugo Drax’s Moonraker Spaceport command center from inception to final in-game rendering. It is from here that Drax manages and coordinates the departure of his Moonraker shuttles to his space station in orbit. In photo 1, you can see the early hand drawn concepts of how the room should look as well as the preliminary 3D modeling of the room. In photo 2, the earlier hand drawn concepts have been dramatically improved upon with added detail and drawn using computer software. In the final photo 3, you can see how the concept art and preliminary modeling was used as the basis for the final in-game environment created by the 3D artists and level designers at Eurocom.</p>
